This morning, we shared really exciting news and some of my favorite new VPSA service features. Here’s a summary of why enterprise cloud storage just got even better, everywhere you are, both on premises and at AWS, Azure and other public clouds:
This morning Zadara announced a new Docker-based, Zadara Container Services (ZCS) that leverages our modular VPSA architecture to run tasks within the storage itself, rather than running code in compute servers.
We have all heard Albert Einstein’s quote “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”. Intuitively we know this is true, but it is amazing how often we ignore this advice.
They say that you can judge a person (or organization) by the company they keep. Well, I think we are in very good company! Last night we were named to the Red Herring Top 100 North American companies. This is an annual listing that recognizes the most promising startups, based on their technological innovation, intellectual property, business model and a number of other quantitative and qualitative characteristics. We now share this honor with a few other notable companies such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Yahoo, Salesforce.com, Palo Alto Networks, Skype, YouTube and eBay. Not bad company, if I do say so myself…
Traditionally, enterprise IT had to buy their own expensive hardware. Then, the cloud came along and showed us that it doesn’t have to be that way. In the cloud, you eliminate the CapEx investment and rigidity of physical storage purchases. The cloud provides significant flexibility to grow and shrink as needed. If your business requirements change, you can adjust your IT resources accordingly. Additionally, there is no need to worry about hardware in the cloud because providers take complete responsibility for making sure everything works, including hardware and software deployment and upgrades – all behind the scenes.

Even though Microsoft’s Robocopy is multi-threaded, the utility inherently limits the number of outstanding I/Os which it can issue to your VPSA. This is simply due to the fact that it has to read and traverse your directory structure while collecting the data for backup. This causes delays in processing which are exacerbated by network latency.
