Private Cloud or Public Cloud – What’s In It For Me?

Private cloud or public cloud?

IT professionals are often struggling with the question of whether they should move their data to the cloud or build a private cloud.  This should not be the question.  The real question is “what are you trying to accomplish?”

Typically, this comes down to a fairly short set of goals:

  • Cost-reduction – can I reduce my overall costs?
  • Agility – can I be more responsive to my internal customers?
  • Elasticity – can I scale my storage resources (capacity/performance) both up and down? Storage management – can I simplify my storage management tasks?
  • Reliability – can I improve my high-availability and disaster recovery profile?

None of these items should be dictated by the location of your data.  Some companies want their data onsite for either legal, procedural (or emotional) reasons.  Some companies want to move their data offsite, and others would like a mix of both.

Storage Where You Want It

At Zadara Storage, we offer:

  • Cloud-based storage
  • On-premises storage (private cloud)
  • Hybrid storage

This allows you to store your data anywhere you want, but still address all of the goals above.   Our Virtual Private Storage Array (VPSA) provides you with enterprise grade storage and all of the high-availability/disaster-recovery features you would expect such as snapshots, clones, local and remote replication and online volume migration.  It is provided in a Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS) model that enables you to grow or shrink your storage resources, as-needed, via a simple GUI interface. Zadara provides full monitoring and management as well as upgrades as-needed, non-disruptively – so that you can focus on running your business, not your storage arrays.  Best of all, Zadara is a pure operating expense (OpEx) model, so you only pay for what you use. There are no up-front costs and you never need to “purchase” storage again.

Whether you are in the cloud, on-premises or a mix of both, you get the exact same experience from Zadara.  It is the same VPSA hardware, software and business model.

So, the question really isn’t “To Cloud or not to Cloud?”  It really doesn’t matter.  You can have the same great Storage-as-a-Service (STaaS) solution regardless of where the data is located.
